This national coalition aimed to highlight the devastating impact of toxic contamination on the poor and people of color via three simultaneous bus tours in September 2006. |

GOALS |

- Draw media coverage to the bus tours and to the struggles of communities across the United States plagued by environmental racism and injustice.
- Develop a national movement to empower community advocates and force the federal government to develop regulations that protect poor communities and communities of color from toxic contamination.

ACTIONS |

- Develop national media materials, media messages, and media strategy for the Tour.
- Identify and reach out to journalists to obtain coverage of the Tour and of campaigns for environmental justice around the US.

RESULTS |

- Helped develop key messages for tour spokespeople.
- Consulted with community organizers around the country to help develop media-friendly events.
- Facilitated local print, television, and radio coverage at tour stop cities and towns.
- Placed two columns about environmental racism and the Environmental Justice Tour with New York Times columnist Bob Herbert.
- Placed tour spokespeople on radio across the nation, including National Public Radio, Pacifica, and Air America stations.
