Intern
Riptide Communications Inc. provides high-quality press and public relations service to groups and individuals committed to progressive social change. Combining a keen sense of newsworthiness, well-written materials and persuasive advocacy, Riptide designs and executes effective media campaigns on a wide range of issues. Working closely with the Riptide Communications staff, the Communications intern will assist with daily functions of the office as well as work on long-term projects.
Intern Responsibilities:
Monitoring print, television, radio and internet sources for media relevant to client work.
Researching media outlets and journalists to compile targeted press lists for clients
Updating the press database
Providing general administrative support, including answering phones, maintaining client files, and organizing press materials
Tracking press coverage and assembling press clips for clients
Assist occasionally with writing and editing of press materials
Assist occasionally with creating marketing kits and pursuing potential new clients
Internship Qualifications:
Superior oral and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Enthusiastic and self-motivated work style
Interest in progressive politics and organizations
Ability to work in the office at least 20 hours per week
Past experience, and/or course work in journalism, public relations, marketing and advocacy campaigns
Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Hours:
This position is available for credit and non-credit applicants. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
